TMO₂ is an innovative, heat-activated, and reusable organic hydrogen peroxide system engineered for sustainable synthetic and materials chemistry. It represents the first commercially available solution of hydrogen peroxide in an organic solvent, offering a significant advancement over traditional aqueous hydrogen peroxide formulations.
Hydrogen peroxide has historically been supplied only in water, which poses limitations for organic synthesis since many organic compounds are insoluble or unstable in aqueous media. As a result, chemists have typically relied on surfactants, phase transfer catalysts, or biphasic systems to facilitate oxidation reactions, adding complexity, compatibility challenges, and extra purification.
TMO₂ addresses these challenges by enabling direct dissolution of organic substrates in the solvent system. Upon heating, the oxidation process proceeds efficiently without the need for elaborate workup procedures. This streamlined protocol eliminates compatibility issues and minimizes post-reaction cleanup.
Following the reaction, products can be easily isolated by evaporating the solvent, which leaves minimal residue and simplifies purification. The system is designed for reuse: after solvent evaporation, TMO₂ can be easily recharged, supporting circular and efficient laboratory workflows. This approach minimizes waste generation and streamlines the overall process, making it both economical and environmentally friendly.
TMO₂ is suitable for a wide range of applications, including:
Its plug-and-play format enables oxidations with greater efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility. The system’s versatility makes it an effective solution for both research laboratories and industrial settings seeking greener methods.
